Down Sleeping Bags: What You Need to Know

down sleeping bags

When choosing a sleeping bag, there's many things you may want to look at. Whether it's the look, the quality of materials used, or the type of insulation that it provides. All of that will dictate how comfortable you will be when the outside temperate drops, and how durable the sleeping bag will end up being. One popular type is down sleeping bags, providing real insulation for those very cold nights. They are one of two types of insulation, and very popular amongst many professional campers. Here's everything you need to know about down sleeping bags.

First, it's important to distinguish between the two types of insulation used in sleeping bags. One type is synthetic, and that's when the bag is used polyfibers in order to fill it, and keep you warm. The advantage these fibers have is that they are lighter, but the big problem is how they can't keep you warm very well in cold temperatures. That's where down sleeping bags come from. These use real feathers to fill the bag and keep you warm even when it gets cold. You're always going to be more comfortable in a down sleeping bag, and that's why the temperature ratings that these provide are typically much lower, which means you can still use them if the weather becomes bad. However, they do have one important negative, which is you cannot get them wet. A down sleeping bag has to stay dry, or it will become uncomfortable very quickly. So as long as you don't expect any rain, or sleep in a proper tent, then you should be fine with this type.  READ MORE >
